Features
Starburst looks fairly basic, with symbols that show precious and semi-precious stones, as well as a few retro symbols. There are 5 reels, but only 10 paylines. It has a wild, but this is not huge and it has a bonus feature, but this is not much to write home about either.
The game moves quickly, which is a positive, and it also has a cosmic aesthetic that will likely appeal to some players. But ultimately it’s a game that we find ourselves struggling to recommend, a game that we just don’t enjoy.
Bonus Round
There are no special bonus features, but there is a wild feature that occurs on the same reels as the base game. This is pretty standard and as an extra feature it would be okay, but as the main bonus feature it’s not. If we go by the maximum wins and the maximum bets then you can win some good money playing this game, but we have yet to have a single session where we have finished in profit so this is not something we have experience in.
In fact, despite playing the game many times over the course of a year or two, we can’t remember ever having a decent win or experiencing anything other than a complete loss of all of our funds within a few minutes. We know that these things happen on occasion, but it just seems to happen to frequently with this online casino slot and it doesn’t have the feel of a generous slot by any stretch of the imagination.
Rating: 4/10
As mentioned above, Starburst doesn’t look like much. It’s not ugly, far from it, it just doesn’t have big 3D graphics and animations. It looks more like an old school slot that has been polished a little than a top NetEnt title. But a top NetEnt title it is and it has certainly won over many gamblers.
Personally, we’re not sure why this is. We’re not big on retro slots and we prefer the ones with big animations. But even if we ignore that, Starburst falls a little short. It doesn’t have any random features and instant wins, it doesn’t even have many interesting bonus features. And worst of all, the wins seem to be few and far between.
We have returned to this slot many times, even though we keep losing. There are many slots that we have struggled with but have continued to play because we know they are popular and we want to see what others see. In most of those, we start to win eventually and we have a little fun. But every time we play Starburst we don’t win, we don’t have fun and we don’t see what makes it so popular.
We’re sorry NetEnt and Starburst fans, but this one is not for us and because this is a review, we have to score it based on that opinion.
