American Express FAQ
Is American Express Safe?
AMEX is very safe. You are guarded against fraudulent transactions and all of the payments made using these cards are also safe. If there is fraud against your card, either because the site you used was a scam site, because someone else scammed you or because your details were hacked (which is very unlikely on modern casinos) then you just need to contact your bank and they will return the money. The bonus is on them to get the money back from the fraudsters and to inform the police. That’s one of the benefits of getting a credit card. It doesn’t mean that you should give your details out willy nilly. But it does mean that you have some peace of mind when you sign-up to a new casino that you’re not entirely sure about.
Is American Express Fast?
The deposits are very fast and if the casino processes the withdrawal immediately then you should get it fairly quickly as well. It may take up to 5 days though, so be prepared to wait and make sure you check your balance.
Is American Express Better Than VISA?
It has better reward schemes, but as mentioned above, these can not be used on online gambling sites so when it comes to gambling they are irrelevant. If we were to focus entirely on accessibility, then VISA would win every time. If you use American Express then you will know how difficult it can be to find online and offline locations that accept it. With VISA, there are no such issues.
However, AMEX still has its plus points and it all comes down to preference. You may prefer AMEX to VISA, you may not. Each to their own.
Do All Online Casinos Use American Express?
No, but if gambling is legal in your country then they should accept credit cards and if they accept credit cards then there is a good chance they accept American Express. As mentioned above, they are not as common as VISA online casinos, but this only really becomes an issue when you venture away from the big gambling brands and towards the ones that have only just been founded or are operating on the fringes of popularity.
Can I Use American Express to Gamble in the US?
No. Online gambling is a very contentious issue in the United States. It operates in a legal grey area. Gambling as such is not illegal if it’s offered online and if the company offering it is based in a South or Central American location where gambling is legal. However, US financial instructions will not facilitate online gambling and that’s why you will not find options such as American Express and other credit cards on these sites. It’s also why you won’t find PayPal and Skrill, because these payment providers don’t want to dip their toes into that legal grey area.
Many players from the US think that a site that doesn’t accept popular credit cards and payment services is a con. In actual fact, it’s the sites that do accept these methods that you should be worrying about, as they are technically breaking a lot of rules and regulations in order to do it and you could be the one who ends up in trouble if they are found out.
Why Can’t I Withdraw Using American Express?
We discussed some of these issues above. Basically, it’s all down to preference on behalf of the casino. The bigger gambling sites like Bet365 and PaddyPowder will not only let you withdraw to a credit card but they’ll process the withdrawal immediately and the money will clear within a couple of days. But sites like 888 Casino don’t allow you to do this at all.
Who is Responsible for my American Express Money?
Not sure who to contact if you have an issue? It will depend on what the issue was. If there is an issue with a deposit or a withdrawal and the money is not leaving the casino account, then take it up with the casino. If the money has left their account but has not arrived in yours, or if you are receiving an error when you try to deposit, then you may need to take the issue up with your bank.
If you have been the vicim of fraud then you should also take the issue up with your bank or credit card provider. They will contact the authorities and they should also put the money back in your account immediately. If you initiate a chargeback against a company that you believe took your money in error, then you need to contact your bank. They will then contact American Express, who in turn will contact the people who you claim took your money and ask them to make their case.
You will receive a refund in the meantime, but if the people you claim took your money make a case against it and this is confirmed by American Express as legitimate, then you may lose it again.
